Break after a month- Don't buy!!, 9 April 2011

These headphones are extremely comfortable and had great sound quality for my journey to school, with great noise cancelling abilities. The problem came after a month of use- the sound cut out in the right ear bud intermittently and then didn't work altogether. Not good, but I loved the sound and comfort. We asked for a replacement, thinking it was just a faulty one off. However when we got the replacement the time period was even quicker, probably about 2-3 weeks after receiving them and using them for the first time. A great sound quality can be found elsewhere, and reliability being extremely important as I use them for around 3 hours a day I think there are many other headphones that will last you longer without compromising sound quality. I would recommend you don't buy unless you want to go through the hassle of replacing them every month.

Excellent In-Ear headphones, dogged by reliability, 8 Jun 2011

First I should point out that these types of headphones do have issues in terms of reliability, where one ear piece will eventually give way. This is a problem with many in-ear headphone products, I have not had a pair that do not have this issue (that has been many).
These Skullcandy products do tend to go a bit sooner than usual, however Skullcandy provide a 100% lifetime guarantee on all headphone products (check website), it couldn't be simpler, pop them in an envelope with a brief description of the issue and the original receipt, within no time you will have a brand new pair.

Aside from this issue I have personally found them to offer superb comfort and sound quality.
Before I get lambasted about the quality of sound produced I would like to point out one thing, these are going to be used on portable MP3 players, as such the quality of the file comes into play, if you are seriously into music you won't be listening to .MP3 files.
In comparison to other in-ear headphones I find them to be head and shoulders above the competition. They have a snug comfortable fit within 'my' ears. The quality of sound across the whole spectrum is excellent. Also, ignore expensive noise cancelling headphones, with these in your ears you really aren't going to hear much else.

All in all, for sub £[], listening on an MP3 player, you aren't going to get much better.

As a signed music producer and part time DJ, for the last 17 years I've travelled a lot playing all around the world; so I've had every type of personal music players there is - from cassette Walkmans bought in Hong Kong, to Discmans, to Minidisc players to Walkman phones and now MP3s etc. etc. etc... So I've been through my fair share of headphones.

I've honestly had loads,some good - some bad, and I can tell you these are 'fine' for personal stereos and perfectly up to the job. They do have their shortcoming, but they also have a lot of positives - especially, I think, considering the price. The main thing you want to know about of course though, is how they sound.

They aren't going to satisfy the hi-fi buff and music purists out there, but then again, neither is listening to the MP3's format anyway. Here in lies the problem. MP3, as a format is rubbish - and lacks any sort of depth or warmth to the sound anyway, so anything you listen to on a iPod, portable MP3 player or walkman phone is going to be lacking in quality and beep bass anyway - so why waste a fortune on headphones, when these do the job adequately.

I've never liked these sort of 'bud' type earpieces as I've always found they didn't fit in my ears and just fell out all the time when I walked - but I'm happy to say these ones, for some reason, stay put. Not only that, they're the 1st pair of sound nullifying or isolating headphones I've ever had that work. They do actually block out all the sound around me I've found - even on train journeys.

All in all, for the money, I'm very happy with these head phones. Some people say the rubbery leads catch on clothes and pull them put - again, I've never had a problem with this. The leads - or connection - did start to crackle a bit when I first got them, but they seem to have settled down now and I haven't had any problems. For what they are they do a good job.

From a technical pov, yeah the bass could be a bit richer, but you get what you pay for - and if that really is a concern of yours, you're not going to get that listening to stuff on MP3 anyway. And one final thought - they're available in a range of different colours too (which is a nice touch), from the Rasta red, gold & green ones to 'Emo' pinks, Goth black and everything in between - the thing is, different colours cost different prices. Look to pay anything from £8.99 to around £20, so if fashion isn't an issue - shop around.

All in all, a fantastic little unit.

It really is as simple as plug and play. I took this out of the box, and was pleasantly surprised by the size, it was about the same size as one of my hands, when i expected it to be much larger. Once i had got over this, i took it out the box and plugged it into the mains and linked it up to my TV with a HDMI cable and another optical cable going to my surround sound, and i instantly had a great picture up on my screen.

Updating the firmware is simple too, there are easy to read instructions on the website. Once it was updated with the latest firmware, i plugged both of my USB sticks in, it took a second to analyse, and it showed me all my music and films. Easy as that!

The user interface is extremely user friendly, its nice to look at and easy and responsive to work with. The remote is small but simple, with clearly labelled buttons.

If you are someone like me, and have many of your films / videos in a digital format and spend ages hooking the laptop up to the TV to get a mediocre picture, this is the unit for you. It makes life so much simpler, in so much better quality. The disc it comes with comes pre loaded with high quality photos videos and music to let you see what the player is really capable of.

My opinion, a fine little player, extremely useful and extremely easy to use. Great value for money, and well worth a buy.

In short, this unit is great. I work in broadcasting and have access to lots of digital content in all sorts of formats. So far I have not found a format this device will not play. The menus are great, it is so easy to use and if you don't need network access to shared drives why pay extra? I have a 500GB USB2 drive on mine which I disconnect as needed to upload new files, which is fine by me. Colleagues of mine suggested I get a PS3 to play my movies and files, but I don't want a games machine and I am happy with my DVD player - all the HD quality files this can play at a fraction of the price.

Buy one.

This fantastic little unit turns your USB connected drive into an HD media player! It has full HD video playback and navigation - up to 1080p quality.

In the box is the Media Player, Remote control, some leads and a CD.

The unit is really quite small (about the size of a large hedgehog! - 10 x 12.6 x 4 cm) and light (just 304g).

There is a 92 page User Manual on a CD - you don't get this as a hard copy in the box but can ask the nice people at Western Digital to send you one.

I've hooked my 1 Terabyte Hard drive up to my TV via my Media player and now have a huge number of films, music and talking books I can play when I fancy. Download some jpegs of movies and put them in the same folder as the movie and hey presto you'll get a thumbnail pic of it...

With this new HD Media Player you can play a huge number of different file types.

Also, the price of this second generation media player is coming down all the time. Amazon have slashed almost 10% off it in the past two weeks. There is an earlier version you can buy for around £69 if you check its technical spec and see that it plays all of the files you want to use it for.

If you want to play HD files from your hard drive on your TV then this really is a superb unit which does the job expertly!

I think this is a great little amp for the price. I bought one a year ago and have recently purchased another. I use it outdoors to play birdsong and the sound quality is fine at the lower volume levels. There is distortion of mp3 sound at high volume but it does go VERY loud and I never need to put it up that high. It takes a 9V battery that lasts for ages, I am not sure exactly how long but I think I must have used the most recent amp for at least 30 hours now and it is still going on its first battery. It is NOT supplied with a connector so I had to buy a lead/jack. For the price, it is excellent value and I only have not given it 5 stars because of the sound distortion.

Works well amplifying mp3 output for luring birds whilst ringing.
If the mp3 player output is set too high it will distort the sound.
However happy with operation and volume is more than enough with MP3 player set to mid range

I bought one of these units to replace my previous low cost unit.
I was fed up of the cheap one not recognising SD cards correctly, the iffy buttons and the limited view of what's happening when using it. The idea is brill, have a few large SDHC memory cards and stuff them with MP3 files, easily transferring my MP3 collection from my PC/iPOD to the car.

The display on this unit is really informative, and very nicely done (you can even adjust the brightness of the backlight). There are enough buttons to be easy to use, and of a good size, but not overpower you with a huge number of small fiddly buttons.

One really nice touch, is that you can switch on your car radios RDS setting and see information about each MP3 as it plays: Track Name, Artist, MP3# etc... really handy!

I had a little difficulty saving the FM station I wanted the unit to "boot up" with (the manual seems to suggest the wrong button). [the trick is to double click the Play button once the desired FM channel is selected on the MEM page (not press MEM again)].

I tried to find a more expensive device that would be more robust, a little less quirky, much more tolerant of SD cards and had a generally "nicer/sexier" look and feel to it. I definately found what I was looking for.
It is more expensive than the "clone" and "spoon shaped" black plastic ones that have saturated the market - but it is way more reliable and a much higher quality product.

I bought this item mainly because it had an AUX out. But since using it I have been using it via the FM radio, which gives surprisingly good results. Normally the FM radio solution is regarded as second best, but I've tried both the AUX connection & the FM radio and I cannot tell the difference. If your FM radio supports the RDS function, details of the MP3 playing will be displayed on the radio.

I've tried several SD cards, all have worked. 2GB micro SDs with adaptors, and a 16Gb SDHC. I also tried an external USB HD formatted FAT32 to 32GB, which also worked.

I mainly use it in random shuffle mode, and like a lot of MP3 players it has a tendency to "remember" songs and play them more frequently than others.
